LESSON

It was the month of May. The school had re-opened after the examinations. I got up very early and dressed up cheerfully. I admired myself in the mirror. I tried to be calm, but my thought were racing .I could not wait to go school and meet my beloved friends.

Breakfast was ready on the table. I took a gulp of hot chocolate and a few bites of toast prepared by my mother. As I was about to leave for school, mother reminded me to bring along an umbrella in case if it rained. As usual, I took no heed her advice and left hurriedly. I was walking quickly to school. Suddenly there was a dark cloud in that sky. The wind started blowing hardly. I started running towards the school as I wanted to avoid the rain. I had no choice than finding shelter at a nearby tree and stood under it for some time.

My shoes and socks were soaking wet that i started sensing numbness in my feet. At last I took the risk and started running towards the school. When I reached the school compound, I took shelter in the students’ bicycle shed which was located behind the school canteen. I immediately opened my bag and tried to rescue my books.

Next, I removed my shoes and socks and left them to dry off. I could not go into my class looking like this! I was also shivering with coldness. I was at this moment that I remembered my mother’s advice of bringing along an umbrella with me. I wished I had listened to her! I waited for the rain stopped. Then, quietly I collected my books and decided that I should just walk back home.

When I reached my home, my mother came out. Luckily, she did not say anything seeing me in such a horrible condition. She told me to have a hot bath. I apologized to her and told her next time i would bring an umbrella to school. I promised myself never to go against Mother’s word again because I already missed my lessons on the first day of school.
